Unquiet Nights
UNQUIET NIGHTS formed in Belfast in 2010, when guitarist and vocalist Luke Mathers teamed up with drummer Rodger Firmin to record their debut album, 21st Century Redemption Songs. Early singles attracted support from BBC Radio 1 and Absolute Radio, with Radio 1's Phil Taggart describing their sound as "Pure Rock & Roll", while BBC 6 Music's Tom Robinson praised their debut as a "fine debut album". The band spent their first six years based near Rome, building a loyal following and touring across nine countries, including dates supporting Bloc Party. Their song George Best City was also featured in a Sky Italia sports documentary series, helping establish their reputation with Italian audiences. Further radio support followed, with respected Irish DJ Roddie Cleere naming their 2018 single Promise of You his Track of the Week on KCLR 96fm. Returning to Northern Ireland, the band established their own recording studio, Credential Sound, and continued releasing music. Their third album, Seasons In Exile, arrived in January 2024, introducing a stronger progressive rock influence inspired partly by Luke's love of bands such as Genesis. The band actually took their name from the Genesis song "Unquiet Slumbers For The Sleepers". The album attracted positive reviews, while single This Is My Oxygen secured airplay on Kerrang! Radio and TotalRock. LAST DAYS OF ROME has been years in the making! The song began life as an instrumental idea before UNQUIET NIGHTS even formed, becoming a regular fixture at rehearsals and soundchecks under the working title Clip of a Thing. Despite fans repeatedly asking when it would be finished, frontman Luke Mathers struggled to find the right lyrics. Having spent six years living near Rome, inspiration finally struck when Luke came across the city's Angel of Grief statue. The encounter gave him the inspiration he needed to complete the song, which now finally sees the light of day on 30th October.
