Armin van Buuren and rising German producer ASTRON4UT combine classic Trance emotion with modern main-floor efficiency on “Starbound.” Bright, driving and deliberately compact, the collaboration becomes one of the melodic centrepieces of Armin’s A State of Trance, Ibiza 2026 compilation. Running at 132 BPM, “Starbound” occupies the space between Progressive Trance and contemporary Main-Floor Trance. Its opening is built for DJs: a firm kick, rolling low end and carefully introduced melodic fragments establish forward motion without revealing the complete theme too early. The production gradually expands rather than relying on an immediate festival-sized statement. Percussive details and widening synth layers increase the pressure before the processed vocal hook introduces the track’s emotional identity. Used more as atmosphere than narrative, the voice adds a human presence without turning “Starbound” into a conventional Vocal Trance record. The breakdown strips back the rhythmic weight and gives the bright central melody room to emerge. From there, rising effects and increasingly dense harmonics lead into a clean, expansive drop. Layered saws provide scale, while the bassline keeps the result grounded in a modern club framework. There is an appealing contrast at work. The sound design is unmistakably current, yet the melodic phrasing recalls the optimistic, space-bound character of early-2000s Trance. It feels nostalgic without sounding like a deliberate reconstruction.ASTRON4UT is the project of Germany-based producer Daniela Schmidt, whose recent remix of Jaytech’s “Omni” already displayed an affinity for classic-minded Progressive Trance. Working alongside Armin van Buuren represents a significant step forward, but her melodic identity is not lost inside the collaboration. Armin’s influence is most evident in the arrangement’s efficiency and large-stage clarity. Every section performs a clear function, and the payoff arrives without unnecessary detours. The downside is that even the Extended Mix lasts only 4:18. Once the central vocal and melody have been established, the final section reinforces them rather than opening a substantially different chapter. That compactness makes “Starbound” highly effective in a DJ set, but it also leaves the impression that its strongest idea could have supported a more ambitious journey.“Starbound” succeeds because it balances two eras without becoming trapped in either. ASTRON4UT brings a classic melodic instinct, while Armin van Buuren gives the production contemporary weight and precision. The arrangement may be shorter and more predictable than its evocative theme deserves, but the combination of driving rhythm, processed vocal atmosphere and luminous synth work makes “Starbound” an effective and emotionally accessible main-floor record and an impressive breakthrough moment for ASTRON4UT.
