Pieter Bon & John Nuyten
Dutch musicians Pieter Bon and John Nuyten today release Carrizo, a musical setting of a poem by Colorado Poet Laureate Crisosto Apache. Carrizo tells the story of a man returning from war and the memories he carries with him. It is a poem about the lasting impact of war on those who return from it written about another time, butstill deeply relevant today. Bon and Nuyten discovered the poem while developing A Native American Songbook, a musical project with contemporary Native American poets. Their poetry forms the starting point for new compositions in which words and music meet. Nuyten composed the music for Carrizo, with Bon on vocals. When Apache first heard the song, hewas deeply moved by the way the music connected with his words and their meaning. He enthusiastically gave his permission for the musical setting and has warmly supported the release.Carrizo is the first release from A Native American Songbook and is available worldwide today on major streaming platforms
