OpCritical
OpCritical is a response to the critical state of America and the world today. Their music, lyrics, and videos are a mirror of the monster before us, the Demogorgon, which can and will destroy everything in its wake unless there is a powerful citizen operation to push back. The members of the band are not important but the message of their music is. Intense, immediate, raw, and emotional, it is meant to inspire people to get off the couch and protect their fundamental rights. Now OpCritical present their latest single, “Parachute”, released on July 24, 2026. What does a parachute do? It saves you from free-falling and getting hurt. Right now, in this chaotic, crazy world, most people feel like they are falling apart: emotionally, financially, and personally. People want a way out, and many would welcome any parachute to take them to safety. And what do people everywhere really want? Freedom, happiness, and justice. “Parachute” speaks about how we can find those things inside ourselves. P.S. For all the musicians listening, here are a few fun tidbits: First, the guitar is an alternative tuning, so see if you can figure it out. Second, check out that bass part. When the band recorded “Parachute” live in the studio, the first take did not have enough energy for them, so they huddled and came up with the operative word about how they should play the second take. That word was "freedom," so their bass player took a few tokes, closed his eyes, and set himself free to give a masterclass in how to express the feeling of a song. Third, the solo sounds like it was planned, but the truth is that it was spur of the moment and completely different from the first take.
